Duarte warns SA could be hit by Brazil’s impeachment protests
Duarte has urged members of the NUM to prepare themselves for a fight she says is looming.
is under attack and that patterns of protest similar to those seen in Brazil could easily replicate themselves in South Africa.
Duarte was speaking to delegates at the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM)'s central committee meeting in Centurion yesterday.
She says South Africa is at risk of a "colour revolution", which could see similar impeachment protests like those held against Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
Duarte says it's concerning that areas where the ANC has delivered the most, also see some of the worst service delivery protests.
"Those protests are less about service delivery and more about resources and leadership greed."
But she says unlike other countries, South Africa's government has the benefit of knowing where its threat comes from.
"Regime change by somebody that is faceless and nameless; at least here in South Africa we know where the regime change possibilities are coming from."
She has urged members of the NUM to prepare themselves for the fight she says is looming.
