DA shows councillor linked to housing scam the door
Henry Jones faces 12 counts of fraud and one of theft for allegedly selling housing plots illegally.
CAPE TOWN - A George councillor facing fraud charges in an apparent housing scam has been kicked out of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The DA's Henry Jones, who is the George Municipality's mayoral committee member for housing, was granted R5,000 bail today.
Jones faces 12 counts of fraud and one of theft after he allegedly stole more than a R100,000 from people he illegal sold housing plots.
Following a disciplinary process, the party's federal legal commission recommended that he be fired.
The DA's Jaco Londt says, "The federal executive considered the recommendation [and] supported it; which means that councillor Jones was found guilty on two charges. Subsequent to that, the decision was that his membership be terminated."
Londt says Jones was informed of the decision to terminate his membership yesterday.
