JOHANNESBURG - Protesting residents of Bapong in the North West have blockaded the N4 in both directions with burning tyres, and are apparently pelting rocks at passing cars.
Police are on the scene and are diverting traffic away from the area but have warned motorists to obey the traffic officials' directives.
It's unclear what the protests are over and drivers in the area have been asked to avoid the N4 near the weigh bridge.
Spokesperson Leonard Hlathi says, "The community members of Bapong are pelting cars with stones, as well as burning tyres on the N4 which is currently not user-friendly. There are traffic officials, together with police, that are managing the routes and directing traffic."
