WCED seeks to interdict Cosatu leader over derelict schools
Last week, the department announced plans to restore Uitsig Secondary and Beauvallon High schools.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Education says it's seeking an interdict agains t Congress of South African Trade Unions' (Cosatu) Tony Ehrenreich over a dispute around construction at schools.
Last week, the department announced plans to restore Uitsig Secondary and Beauvallon High after the schools were declared structurally unsafe.
The Education MEC's spokesperson, Jessica Shelver, says, "I can confirm that learners at the Uitsig Secondary School are being accommodated at the school, this is against the recommendations of Western Cape Education Department. We are currently seeking legal advice in that regard."
Ehrenreich says the parents and pupils are planning to do the upgrades themselves.
"Cosatu is working with communities of Uitsig, and the learners, to upgrade the school, given the fact that the education department doesn't want to. Today, the parents and the learners will start painting the school so that they can upgrade it to the same standards that exist in Claremont and Constantia."
