Woman 'smuggled' into SA was in relationship with defence minister's son
The Sunday Times is reporting Michele Wege was planning to marry Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula's late son, Chumani.
The minister allegedly smuggled the Burundian woman with a false passport into the country.
She claims she was rescuing her from an abusive father.
The Sunday Times says it spoke to Laurent Wege, who revealed his daughter was engaged to Mapisa-Nqakula's late son.
Wege apparently confronted the minister about her marriage arrangements for the 22-year-old woman.
He says the minister had arranged with her sister, Nosithembele Mapisa, who was the deputy ambassador to Burundi at the time, for his daughter to run away to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where she was arrested with fraudulent documents.
Mapisa was suspended for her alleged role in assisting the woman source a fake passport.
In her right of reply, Mapisa-Nqakula apparently told the paper that the story was a well calculated political plot to destroy her reputation.
