Wits working with cops to track down attempted arson suspects
Wits says two unknown people wearing balaclavas gained entry into its library with three gas cylinders.
JOHANNESBURG - Wits University says it's working with the police to track down those behind what appears to have been an attempt to set one of its buildings alight at its main campus in Braamfontein.
The university says two unknown people wearing balaclavas gained entry into its library with at least three gas cylinders yesterday.
It's understood the pair entered the building through a window.
The university has since beefed up its security.
Spokesperson Shirona Patel said, "A case has been opened at the Hilbrow Police Station. The university believes this was a deliberate attempt to burn down the building."
It's not yet clear whether the suspects are students.
