Blue Monday ahead as M1 project intensifies, Sandton traffic to be heavy

JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA)'s is warning of heavy traffic congestion in the Sandton area when the next phase of the M1 highway rehabilitation project begins tomorrow.

The operation includes the upgrade of three bridges on the M1 highway which will affect traffic from Alexandra and Midrand coming into Sandton.

The project will be concluded next year February.

The JRA's Bertha Peters-Scheepers has called on motorists to be patient and to make use of public transport to avoid heavy traffic delays.

"From tomorrow we are closing an additional lane going southbound on the M1 freeway and therefore there will definitely be additional timeframes given to any journey."
