City of Tshwane saddened by dehorning of two white
The City of Tshwane says the killing of the rhino has dealt a blow to its conservation efforts.
JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane says it's upset and saddened by the dehorning of two white rhino at its Rietvlei Nature Reserve.
Officials say they discovered the carcasses of the two animals on Thursday.
Security has now been heightened as police investigate the poaching incident.
The city says the killing of the rhino has dealt a blow to its conservation efforts.
Tshwane spokesperson Blessing Manale says park authorities have removed the remaining horn from the animals.
"Officials from the South African National Parks and Tshwane this morning proceeded to dehorn the remaining residuals from the rhino. The horns will safely be taken by an escort of the metro police and the Saps to a place pf safety as evidence as investigations continue."
