Tourism minister welcomes relaxation of new visa regulations
Derek Hanekom says there was an immediate positive effect to the relaxation of strict new visa regulations.
CAPE TOWN - Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom says there was an immediate positive effect to the relaxation of strict new visa regulations introduced last year by the Department of Home Affairs.
The move was met with relief by industry role players.
Hanekom's told the National Assembly his department is working closely with sister departments to remove all unnecessary barriers that could discourage travel to South Africa.
"All international evidence points to the immediate positive effects of the relaxation of visa requirements and the streamlining of visa issuance."
Hanekom says they're also working with the Department of Transport to make it easier for visitors to travel to South Africa.
"To get more people to visit South Africa, we have to work with our sister departments to remove barriers that could discourage travel to our country. We are working with the Department of Home Affairs to facilitate ease of travel to our country."
