City Power gets R16.7bn cash injection
The City of JHB says the money will be used to drive the electrification of informal settlements.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg's Finance MMC Geoffrey Makhubo has said a R16.7 billion injection into City Power will be used to drive projects such as the electrification of informal settlements.
Makhubo delivered his 2016/17 budget speech yesterday, where he announced the city's R54.8 billion budget.
He said City Power's operating budget will be used to increase its supply capacity, among other initiatives.
He has also urged those living in informal settlements to be patient.
"Of course when they see it happening next-door, they say but why not us and it results in an informal settlement. But that's why we said it's a people's plan. We go to them, look we're coming to you, it's never enough but we're coming to you."
