Manqele’s legal team takes her quest for freedom to SCA
Judge Solly Sithole dismissed Sindisiwe Manqele’s application for leave to appeal earlier this afternoon.
JOHANNESBURG - Sindisiwe Manqele's legal team will now approach the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein, to file a petition against her conviction and sentence for the murder of Nkululeko "Flabba" Habedi.
Acting High Court Judge Solly Sithole dismissed Manqele's application for leave to appeal in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge earlier this afternoon.
The 27-year-old former student was found guilty of killing her rapper boyfriend Flabba at his home in Alexandra in March last year.

The convicted murderer is determined in her quest for freedom as she plans to file a petition at the SCA to have her murder conviction and 12 year jail term set aside.
Her attorney Amanda Vilakazi says, "We have been instructed to proceed to the SCA, to petition the court for leave to appeal both the conviction and sentence."
Sithole says he dismissed her application because he doesn't believe that another court will have a different outcome.
Earlier in the trial, the State argued that a heated argument between the two lovers was caused by Manqele's intolerance at seeing Habedi interacting with another woman at a Sandton club.
But Manqele's lawyers said she stabbed her boyfriend to protect herself, and not because he danced with a former lover.
The defence lawyers cautioned against representations of her being a drunk jealous girlfriend who killed her musician boyfriend out of spite.
Manqele will spend her first night in prison today, at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre in Naturena, also known as 'Sun City' prison.
