Sars seize R2m worth of cocaine
A Brazilian national was stopped & searched after a scan of his luggage revealed two concealed backpacks.
JOHANNESBURG - South African Revenue Service (Sars) officials have seized cocaine worth more than R2 two million at the OR Tambo International Airport.
Yesterday, a Brazilian national was stopped and searched after a scan of his luggage revealed two concealed backpacks.
Officials discovered more than eight kilograms of cocaine inside the bags.
Authorities say the man was making his way to Mozambique with the cocaine.
Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela said, "Two backpacks with suspicious looking white substance that turned out to be cocaine. The man and his bags were handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution."
