Man arrested in R11k gold bust at CT International
The man was taken into custody after customs officials discovered the gold concealed in a jam jar.
CAPE TOWN - A man has been arrested at Cape Town International Airport after he was found in possession of gold valued at around R11,000.
The man was taken into custody on Tuesday after customs discovered the gold concealed in a jam jar.
South African Revenue Service (Sars) spokesperson Sandile Memela says, "The jam jar was found in the man's luggage and it was put through the scan that revealed four metal stones which was confirmed to be gold bars. The man and gold were handed over to the South African Police Service."
This is the second gold bust at an airport this week.
