Alleged serial rapist abandons bail application
The 33-year-old, charged with 23 counts of rape, will be back in court in August.
CAPE TOWN - An alleged serial rapist has abandoned his bail application in the Bellville Magistrates Court.
The 33-year-old made his second court appearance today following his arrest last week.
He was taken into custody in Epping Industria following a five-year investigation.
The case against the Khayelitsha man, who has been charged with 23 counts of rape, has been postponed to August.
He has abandoned his bail application, for now.
Wearing jeans and a black rain jacket, the accused stood silently with his arms folded during proceedings this morning.
He is accused of a string of rapes committed in Delft and Khayelitsha.
Police say seven victims between the ages of 18 and 28 have been tracked down so far.
The accused will remain behind bars until his next court appearance in mid-August when a date for another bail application will be discussed.
