Zimbabwean football crowd turns on riot police

JOHANNESBURG - Video footage has emerged of Zimbabwe riot police running for safety from a mob of football fans in the capital Harare.

The officers, three with dogs, were jeered and pelted with stones by angry fans yesterday.

The scenes took place after the premier league match between popular Harare team Dynamos and FC Platinum.

Dynamos went down one-nil to FC Platinum at Rufaro Stadium, and after the match, irate Dynamos fans took their anger our on riot police.

A video posted on YouTube by the private _NewsDay _paper shows six police officers and their dogs sprinting for cover.

Rocks appear to have been thrown, and the crowds could be heard jeering and whistling at the sight of the retreating police officers.

According to the state-run _Herald _newspaper, some officers took cover inside the stadium until reinforcements arrived.
