CAPE TOWN - SA Rugby's New Commercial General Manager Tsholo Kubheka tells EWN Sport they are confident of securing a major sponsor before the Springboks' first test at Newlands on 11 June against Ireland.

The Boks' previous major sponsor, Absa, which had their logo on the front of the jersey, saw their deal come to an end last year.

Kubheka, who has recently taken over the position from Andy Marinos, says, "It's no secret our former team sponsor did not renew with us, it's an exciting time, it's a tough market, we are working hard, I think we will have good news to give to South Africans just before the first Test at Newlands on 11 June."

He went onto say, "Yes, it is an unbranded jersey as we speak right now as we in the final stages of securing a partner that will walk the journey with us."

A partner has not officially signed and Kubheka is weary of SA Rugby counting their chickens before they hatch.

"I don't want to pre-empt anything or jinx it but we've got a couple of prospective partners that are looking at it and are excited about it."

Kubheka believes the Bok brand carries a lot of weight.

"I'm as confident, as we have always been of securing a major sponsor for the Bok jersey, we have great equity in that Springbok jersey and in all our products. I have no doubt that for all companies it would be a great acquisition to join us on this journey."

SA Rugby have already extended their sponsorship agreement with Castle Lager earlier this year and Kubheka says SA Rugby are in a solid position.

"We are in a good space, opportunities are plenty, we need to find a unique partner that wants to travel the journey in a strategic way so that they achieve their targets and we achieve ours in where we taking the Springbok brand."
