NEW YORK - Julia Roberts is for the first time time attending the Cannes Film Festival... and she's doing it barefoot.

She said being at Cannes with friends like George Clooney and Dominic West was a dream come true.

"Having never been here before, this is so crazy, and wonderful, and such a wild celebration of cinema."

The Oscar-winning actress made a lasting impression, having walked her first Cannes red carpet barefoot, apparently to protest against the festival's unwritten 'red carpet high heel enforcement policy'.

Last year, organisers denied what became known as the "flatgate" controversy, where celebrities lashed out against the strict dress code rules.
