Threats of more violence keep cops on high alert in Masiphumelele
Chaos erupted yesterday when taxi drivers allegedly tried to force residents to use their services.
CAPE TOWN - Police will continue monitoring Masiphumelele following threats of further violence between residents and taxi drivers.
Chaos erupted in the area yesterday when taxi drivers allegedly tried to force residents to use their services.
Some locals are boycotting taxi bosses after drivers apparently refused to take part in a protest march in support of a jailed community leader.
A resident says they are boycotting local taxis after drivers refused to join in their march and assaulted commuters.
"The community members are taking private cars to get them to the station and other places, so the taxi wanted to block them. The people walked from Masiphumelele to Fish Hoek."
Police say they will continue patrolling the area until they are satisfied the situation has normalised.
