City of CT clinics hard-hit by vandals
Authorities have submitted over 100 insurance claims, the majority of which are for vandalism & theft.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says it has submitted more than 100 insurance claims, of which the majority are for incidents of theft and vandalism at clinics since July last year.
In the most recent incident, criminals damaged the roof and stole pipes and taps at the Newfield Satellite Clinic in Hanover Park last week.
The municipality's Siyabulela Mamkeli says these incidents are crippling health services.
"People need to start realising the money spent on safeguarding clinics and fixing damage caused by the very same community who we are trying to serve, who is negatively impacting the quality of the health services we are trying to provide for them."
Three computers were also stolen at the Zakhele Clinic in Khayelitsha.
