Staggering stats on the main perpetrators of crime in SA

Pali Lehohla, Stats SA's Statistician-General, says the manifestation of crime is that it happens amongst people who know each other, in the home and adds women bear the brunt of violence in SA.

JOHANNESBURG - Pali Lehohla, Stats SA's Statistician-General, says the manifestation of crime is that it happens amongst people who know each other.

He says the information comes from two sources - one is from the records and the other comes from the police.

The survey was divided into different categories of crime namely sexual offences, murder and assault.

Lehohla says findings indicate crimes are perpetrated because of jealousy or anger against a family member or member of the public and money issues.
