Cops on alert as Masiphumelele protesters head to Simons Town
It’s believed residents are demonstrating over the arrests of 3 community leaders who are due in court.
CAPE TOWN - Traffic and police officials are escorting a large group of demonstrators in Masiphumelele, who appear to be making their to the Simons Town Magistrates Court.
Protesters have been mobilising since early this morning.
Traffic is moving at a snail's pace along Kommetjie Road near the entrance to Masiphumelele.
A large group of protesters can be seen singing and chanting, as officials keep a watchful eye on them.
Eyewitness News has asked some demonstrators why they're marching. Many say they "don't know", although it's believed the demonstration stems from the arrests of three community leaders who are expected in court today.
