Post Office employees ‘feel like a step child ignored by govt’
The CWU will issue a formal strike notice to formally notify the SA Post Office of its industrial action.
JOHANNESBURG - The Communication Workers Union (CWU) says it will issue a notice to the South African Post Office (Sapo) in the next 24 hours, to formally notify the employer of its intention to go on a full-blown strike.
The union says workers have not received a salary increase for the last two years and have no other option.
CWU President Clyde Mervin says employees feel like a 'step child' being ignored by government.
"Workers have sacrificed for two years without an increase and everything has gone up. [CEO Mark Barnes] is very arrogant when he speaks to us. He is very rude to us. We're going to strike and make our voices heard."
Earlier the Barnes appealed to workers to reconsider the strike, warning the state-owned company is already in an extremely fragile position.
