Rashied Staggie expected in court
The former gang boss was arrested on Thursday, less than two years after being let out on parole.
CAPE TOWN - Former Cape Town gang boss Rashied Staggie will today find out whether his parole will be revoked after he was caught in the possession of suspected stolen goods and illegal firearms.
Staggie was arrested on Thursday, less than two years after being let out on parole, and is also set to appear in court today.
The former Hard Livings gang boss was convicted and imprisoned more than a decade ago, on charges of kidnapping and raping a teenager in 2001.
The Correctional Services Department granted him parole in 2014.
On Thursday, police tracked Staggie down while he was travelling in a three-car convoy near Canal Walk in Cape Town.
After searching the luxury vehicles, police reportedly found whiskey, cigars that were allegedly stolen, as well as guns and ammunition.
Staggie and three others were arrested on the spot and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court today.
Meanwhile, the Correctional Services Department says the parole board will meet today to read the report and determine whether parole will be revoked.
