CAPE TOWN - The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union(Popcru) has condemned a recent spate of attacks on police officers in Cape Town.
In the latest incident yesterday, a warrant officer was shot and wounded while responding to a business robbery in Milnerton; this was one of four attacks on South African Police Service members in Cape Town since last Monday.
On Friday night, an off-duty constable was shot and killed in Delft.
Last Monday, an officer was gunned down outside his home in Crossroads.
The constable's killers made off with his service pistol.
Two days later an officer was wounded while sitting in an official vehicle in Gugulethu.
Popcru's Richard Mamabolo says, "We are quite worried about the recent spate of police killings. In Limpopo as well, we've had cases that took place. We will not allow this situation to become a pattern that has marred our country in the past year."
