CAPE TOWN - Images of a grandmother and her grandson being berated by a staff member at a Mitchells Plain Pick 'n Pay on Saturday have sparked outrage.
Eyewitness Faghria Kariem says a security staff member accused the child of breaking a chocolate, still in its wrapper, and threatened the woman with arrest after she refused to pay for the sweet. The woman then apparently fainted.
Pick n Pay's Facebook page has been flooded with posts by enraged customers.
In a written statement, Pick n Pay called the incident unacceptable and says the retailing chain is urgently looking into the matter.
