CAPE TOWN - Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after an officer was shot in the neck.

The officer responded to a business robbery in Milnerton during the early hours of this morning.

He has since been taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

This is the fourth attack on a South African Police Service (Saps) official since Monday, and only the second in which the officer wasn't killed.

The police's Noloyiso Rwexana said, "A suspect who is in his late 20s was arrested in connection with this incident."

On Monday morning, during a separate incident, Constable Lindekile Sikade was shot and killed in front of his house and robbed of his firearm.

Another policeman based in Mitchells Plain was shot on Thursday evening. He's currently in hospital.
