One of the men mentioned on the 'RU Reference List' has released a statement online.
JOHANNESBURG - One of the men named on a list of alleged sexual offenders at Rhodes University has openly denied the allegations made against him in a statement on social media.
The man is one of eleven people whose names were revealed in a Facebook post on Sunday.
There have been protests by students who have accused the University of being ineffective in dealing with the rape cases reported to management at the Grahamstown campus.
The lawyer representing one of the men included on the post known as the ' RU Reference Lis t' says no formal charge of rape has been laid against him.
He has released a personal statement on social media and says while he is not guilty, he is willing to co-operate with the authorities.
He has also expressed his support for the current demonstrations on campus, which have led to a general shutdown until Monday.
The university is yet to respond to students who are calling for some of the men on the list to be expelled from the institution.
The police say only one case of sexual assault is being investigated.
