Fatal truck crash on Gautrain line to be probed
A truck crashed through cement barriers onto the Gautrain line in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon.
JOHANNESBURG - Transport MEC Ishmail Vadi says there will be a full investigation into a deadly truck crash on the Gautrain line in Pretoria.
A truck crashed through cement barriers onto the Gautrain line in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon, killing the passenger, while the driver was left injured.
Gautrain services were disrupted on the Pretoria to Hatfield line, with buses being brought in to ferry passengers.
Vadi says this is not the first truck to crash on Loveday Road.
He says in November the driver of a load-bearing vehicle misjudged the steep incline.
Vadi will be meeting with the City of Tshwane to find ways of preventing similar accidents.
"It does seem if you have trucks coming through here with heavy loads it poses a risk, both to the residents and to the train services."
Vadi says a probe into the accident will establish its exact cause.

OPERATIONS RESUME
Gautrain says its train service between Hatfield and Pretoria stations has been restored and is fully functional after yesterday's fatal crash.
Gautrain's Kesagee Nayager said, "I can confirm that train services between Hatfield and Pretoria have been restored and trains will be operating as usual as of this morning. If we have camera footage that's required or requested, we'll gladly share that, but I'm not sure if we have that at this stage."
