CAPE TOWN - Controversial Beaufort West Mayor Truman Prince has again been accused of assault, this time he's been accused of allegedly manhandling a councillor.

Prince is said to have pushed Democratic Alliance (DA) ward councillor Magdalena Slabbert during a community meeting in Nelspoort earlier this week and threatened to beat up others.

Slabbert has lodged a complaint with the council speaker and local government MEC Anton Bredell.

The African National Congress (ANC) politician currently faces assault charges following an altercation with a female traffic officer in Leeu Gamka in January.

The DA's Sharna Fernandez says Slabbert has been left shaken by the incident.

"She's fearing for her life now because she lives alone. She's fearful that if she lays a charge he will come after, because he threatens everybody, including me. But he was wrong, ultimately, and the people were there to see."

Prince has not been available for comment, but has taken to Facebook to accuse Slabbert of trying to hijack a mayoral meeting.

He's also come out against Fernandez, whom he's described as inexperienced.
