Transport minister condemns CT Metrorail violence
Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has called on those responsible for the arson to stop these actions.
JOHANNESBURG - Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has condemned the violence which has seen several trains being set alight in Cape Town.
Services across the city were disrupted due to the torching of several coaches at the Cape Town and Kraaifontein stations last week.
Metrorail has suggested the vandalism is linked to criminal elements within members of Satawu but the trade union has distanced itself from the violence.
Peters has called on those responsible for the arson to stop these actions.
Her spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi said, "he minister says this cannot be allowed to happen in the modern democracy such as ours where individuals with ulterior motives undermine government commitment to modernise our rail system, to derail progress that has already been achieved."
