JOHANNESBURG - The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has confirmed that at least 10 African National Congress (ANC) volunteers have been killed in a fatal bus crash in the Free State.

The bus transporting members from Ekurhuleni overturned on the N1 near Winburg earlier today.

Passengers were returning from the ANC's elections manifesto rally in Port Elizabeth.

The RTMC's Simon Zwane, says in addition to the 10 deaths, several passengers sustained multiple injuries.

"Some other 20 people have been seriously injured while 38 others suffered minor injuries, one person is in a critical condition."

It's believed the driver transporting the volunteers lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn.

Injured passengers have been transported to hospitals in Kroonstad, Welkom and Winburg.

The ANC says it's saddened by the crash and will provide more information once all facts are verified.
