JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed a fatal bus crash which has claimed the lives of some of its supporters in Winburg in the Free State.

Officials say the driver transporting members from Ekurhuleni lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn.

It's believed 10 people died returning from yesterday's election manifesto launch in Port Elizabeth, however the party is yet to confirm the number of fatalities.

The ANC's Mzwandile Masina says party officials are making their way to the scene.

"We have sent people to rush to the scene and some NEC members are there. We will be working with the families of the supporters who have passed on."

The ruling party has expressed its sadness over the incident and adds its thoughts are with the injured and bereaved.
