Salt River fire damages shacks, market building

CAPE TOWN - More than a dozen firefighters have managed to extinguish a blaze near the Salt River Market.

The fire, which broke out about earlier today, managed to slightly damage the nearby market building.

Several shacks were also burnt, but no injuries have yet been reported.

It is unclear how the fire started.

The City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services' Theo Layne said, "The fire was spreading to the market area. We had three fire engines, one water tanker with a total of 17 firefighters on the scene."
