CAPE TOWN - A PSL disciplinary committee has found Platinum Stars guilty of fielding an ineligible player against Mamelodi Sundowns in August last year.

The committee says the club knew that the player in question, Siyabonga Zulu, was not eligible to play for them.

They were also found guilty of failing to report misconduct on the part of Chippa United to the PSL.

The transgression involved the failure by Chippa to clear Zulu back to the club from which they had loaned him.

Stars were fined a sum of R50,000 while one league point was deducted, which comes into effect immediately. The club has also been instructed to pay the costs of the sittings of the committee.

Speaking after the match against Ajax, Stars coach Cavin Johnson was unaware of the fine but admitted something like this should not be happening.

"It shouldn't happen at this level, there probably is a reason why (it happened) but I don't think I am the right person to answer that."
