CAPE TOWN - The extradition case against an alleged British sex offender who was arrested in Cape Town, after being on the run for several years, has been postponed until next week.

The 52-year-old briefly appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates court today after he was apprehended at his Greenpoint home last month.

The accused was arrested as part of a paedophile ring which was uncovered in the Bristol area in 1998.

He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in absentia but this was later quashed due to a technicality.

His co-accused were however convicted in a retrial in 2003.

His lawyer Leon van der Merwe says, "The matter was postponed until next week Tuesday in order for us to file an affidavit on behalf of the client in application for bail."
