CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape education department has confirmed a teacher at a Hanover Park school has been robbed and stabbed.

The teacher was attacked this morning by an unknown man when she arrived at Summit Primary School.

The department says this is only the educator's second week at the school.

The department's Jessica Shelver says she's being treated at hospital.

"An unknown male is alleged to have entered the school premises through the back gate and followed the teacher into a classroom, where she was robbed of her wallet and stabbed under her rib cage. Emergency services were called and the South African Police Service is currently at the school."

Last week a grade 9 pupil was stabbed in the chest, allegedly by a gangster at Modderdam High School.

The teenager, whose lung was punctured after the attack, underwent surgery.
