JOHANNESBURG - Sindisiwe Manqele will know today whether or not she will be granted leave to appeal her conviction and sentence for murdering rapper Nkululeko 'Flabba' Habedi.

Manqele was sentenced to 12 years in prison last month in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge.

She stabbed and killed Habedi during an argument at his Alexandra home in March last year.

Manqele will learn her fate today as her defence applies for leave to appeal.

She was found guilty of the murder, in an act described by Judge Solly Sithole as a 'crime of passion'.

During sentencing the judge said Manqele performed CPR on the rapper and her staying on the scene after the stabbing warranted a lighter sentence than the minimum 15 years for murder.

She is currently out on bail of R15,000 following her sentencing last month.

If her lawyers are successful in today's application, they will approach the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein.
