JOHANNESBURG - Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's personal assistant has confirmed that the anti-apartheid icon has been hospitalised for follow-up surgery on her back.
Yesterday, Eyewitness News learned through family sources that Madikizela-Mandela was struggling to recover from an earlier operation.
In a short statement released last night, Madikizela-Mandela's personal assistant Zodwa Zwane confirmed that Madiba's former wife is in hospital for a follow-up procedure.
The procedure will take place on Thursday.
The statement goes on to thank people for their support and prayers.
However, the family says they would appreciate that her privacy be respected while she recovers from the surgery.
