CAPE TOWN - Independent psychiatrists have ruled the man accused of the rape and murder of a Bredasdorp woman fit to stand trial.

Delvigo Ward made a brief appearance in the Bredasdorp Magistrates Court for the murder of 23-year-old Sulnita Manho.

The matter was postponed for a formal bail application next month.

Today the court heard Ward was discharged from the Stikland Mental Health Hospital after a short stint in November.

The court has requested the State obtain a report, detailing the reasons for his admission.

Ward is accused of sexually assaulting and killing Mahno more than a week ago.

Her body was found the next day at the nearby P&B Lime Works.

The National Prosecuting Authority says more charges can be added pending the outcome of the police investigation.
