JOHANNESBURG - Two of the Gupta brothers have reportedly left South Africa, after resigning from their Oakbay Investment Company on Thursday night.

The City Press is reporting that Atul and Ajay Gupta boarded their private luxury jet at Lanseria at 11pm on Thursday night, after an emotional meeting with shareholders.

The report suggests that the controversial family may be done with their business empire in South Africa for good.

The newspaper says the Gupta family have withdrawn from public life in South Africa due to the negative publicity about their proximity to President Jacob Zuma.

It says one of the brothers' sons is already living in Dubai, and the pair left the airport with enough luggage for 20 people.

The report follows the Guptas' resignation from Oakbay, along with President Zuma's son Duduzane.

In a statement, the three executives said they pulled out of the country to safeguard the future of Oakbay employees.

The latest development follows a decision by Absa, Sasfin, KPMG and FNB to cut ties with the family.
