JOHANNESBURG - Registration is progressing smoothly in Denver in southern Johannesburg with no hiccups reported.

Denver is made up of mostly dilapidated buildings and hostels.

During the previous voter registration weekend, some residents tried to chase the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) out of the area.

A Denver resident is hoping his vote will contribute towards bringing change to his area, come the local government elections.

"I want Zuma to go, he's already corrupted our country. If they can let him go then maybe South Africa can be a better place."

But another local is far less optimistic.

"I think I've lost my confidence in politics and interest in it, I don't think it's worth it. I don't think politics itself will change the conditions or how we live here. I think the people of the community will do that."

Meanwhile, some Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) supporters are opposed to splitting the ward as part of the new demarcation.
