JOHANNESBURG - Police in Fourways have warned motorists to be vigilant of a scam aimed at getting them to pull over while they're driving.

The modus operandi involves first stealing the victim's number plate and then using the stolen plate to get the motorist to stop driving.

Once stationary, the victim is attacked.

Police spokesperson Balan Muthan said, "Drive to the nearest police station and drive to the nearest, busiest public area, and stop and check their vehicle. If it is definitely them then go to the police and report it. Most importantly be observant and take the vehicle's registration number."
