Lira set to launch her new album
This is the singer’s sixth studio album.
JOHANNESBURG - Local songstress Lira will launch her latest album _ Born Free_ at the Lyric Theatre in three separate shows at Gold Reef City this weekend.
This is the singer's sixth studio album and her first independent release as she marks thirteen years in the industry.
She has had a successful year so far as one of the judges on M-Net's talent show The Voice and was recently chosen as Johnnie Walker's first female brand ambassador.
The 37-year-old says it's all been an exciting experience.
"I seem to be attracting brands that are aligned with my values, so it feels like a natural progression and they're just giving me platforms to do more of what I love."
She says breaking into the international scene is challenging for local artists.
"There is so much red tape when you are a South African or African artist trying to get into the world; there are so many structures in place that make it difficult, so for me it made sense to go at it as an independent artist."
Born Free masterfully blends a new sound with the smooth urban direction synonymous with her brand.
She says, "This is my best record yet and listeners should expect to hear the definitive growth and boldness which that brings."
She has already sold out two shows scheduled for tonight and Saturday, and will be hosting another one on Sunday. Watch: Lira - Let there be light
