Three alleged Rolex gang members convicted on multiple charges
The group was yesterday found guilty of murder, robbery & several lighter charges.
JOHANNESBURG - Three people believed to be part of the notorious so-called Rolex Gang have been found guilty of murder, robbery and several lighter charges.
The Star newspaper is reporting that the three appeared in the High Court sitting at Palm Ridge yesterday where they faced nine charges relating to 12 robberies in 2014.
The infamous Rolex Gang used to target people with high valuable items in wealthy suburbs across Johannesburg.
The trio was finally caught last year during a high speed chase by police in which one of their gang members Clifford Ngcobo was shot dead.
A lawyer representing the accused had argued during the trial that his clients never shot at the police during that chase and that it was only Ngcobo who fired shots at the officers.
Yesterday, the High Court relied on the legal principle of dolus eventualis and found the trio guilty of Ngcobo's murder, saying that they must have foreseen that one of their gang could be killed in the shootout with police.
