CAPE TOWN - A man accused of raping of a Stellenbosch University student is due back in the dock on 5 May.

The 32-year-old man appeared briefly in the Stellenbosch Magistrates Court yesterday after his arrest at the weekend.

He was granted R500 bail.

A student, who asked to remain anonymous, explains why she feels uneasy. "It upsets me that a person does something this horrible and gets off so easy with R500 bail. The person, if he is guilty, can do it to another person so easily and pay another R500 to get out of jail again."

The man is accused of raping a 20-year-old woman.

It's alleged the attack happened in a car in a parking area near the Heemstede residence during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The accused was arrested after other students came forward with information.
