Cosatu urges Zuma to distance himself from Gupta family
Cosatu says it's worried about the influence of the Guptas as they have divided and embarrassed the ANC.
JOHANNESBURG - Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) says while it does not support calls for President Jacob Zuma to be removed, it does want the president to distance himself from the Gupta family, which it's described as a 'huge political liability'.
Cosatu says it's worried about the influence of the Guptas as they have divided, embarrassed and weakened the African National Congress.
It's held a meeting of its political bureau that ended this afternoon.
The federation says it has no reason not to believe those people who have come forward with information about the controversial family's apparent influence.
Cosatu's Sizwe Phamla said, "The meeting called on President Jacob Zuma to openly distance himself from the Gupta family. He should openly reprimand them and make it clear that they don't have his support or endorsement in their shenanigans."
