JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks are searching for two suspects involved in a brazen shoot-out with officers that left five of their accomplices dead in KwaZulu-Natal.

The group of seven suspects had allegedly robbed a shop in Durban yesterday, when police cornered them on the R103 main road.

The group opened fire and police retaliated.

The Hawks' Robert Netshiunda says, "We were informed [what] types of vehicles were involved in the robbery so when we came across a vehicle that met the criteria, we tried to stop the car and the suspects started shooting at the police. One of our police officers was injured in the shoot-out. He was rushed to hospital but he is in a stable condition."
