City of CT identifies flood-prone areas ahead of winter
The municipality has already begun distributing flood kits to residents in Khayelitsha and Gugulethu.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has identified areas prone to flooding that will receive additional support over winter.
The municipality has already begun distributing flood kits to residents in Khayelitsha, Masiphumelele and Gugulethu, among other areas.
The kits include building materials and sand bags.
The City's Benedicta van Minnen said management has made efforts to try and reduce and mitigate risks of flooding.
"We have made great efforts to try and reduce the plight caused by flooding. This includes gravel platforms that we've built in certain areas to lift people up out of these flood waters and also to ensure that drains and pipes are cleaned and cleared. And also trying to relocate people to safer opportunities where possible."
