Mantashe: Impeachment isn't something we should rush into
The ANC top six is meeting today at an undisclosed venue to discuss the implications of today’s judgment.
JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says the party can't rush into any decision over today's Constitutional Court ruling.
Mantashe was speaking at Luthuli House earlier today and says the ANC is pleased with the role of the Constitutional Court.
He also says the ruling clarified many things regarding the controversial Nkandla debacle.
The ANC secretary general says the party accepts and respects today's ruling.
He, however, says the party may hold an urgent national executive committee meeting to discuss the matter further.
Mantashe says the impeachment of President Jacob Zuma is not something that can be rushed into.
"It will not be in the interest either of the opposition itself or the ANC to just rush into such decisions, because you have the appetite of just hacking the ANC."
