CAPE TOWN - A shoot-out broke out between Cape Town law enforcement officers and armed robbers in Bonteheuwel earlier today.

The gang of about seven men held up staff at an Engen garage in the area.

They are believed to have robbed the filling station of more than R300,000.

Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says officers managed to arrest two of the robbers shortly after the hit.

"As soon as the backup arrived, five gunmen stormed out of the building and also gave chase during which one of the suspects opened fire on them and caught one of the suspects. One was found with R20,000 and another was caught with 2,000."

Smith says another man was arrested in Langa a short while later, while four others are still on the run.
